School Field Trips

We love to welcome school groups and summer camps to the Hartman Rock Garden. Group visits are centered around our self-directed Kids Tour, which engages each child’s creative spirit and sense of wonder in an exploration of our visionary art environment. On the tour, children search for art objects based on shape, hunt for hidden symbols, and then sketch and write about what they find. This program is designed for kids in grades 3-5, but can be adapted to suit kids of all ages. To deepen the learning experience, our curatorial team has also developed a series of materials to accompany the visit, including pre-tour and post-tour worksheets. Our team is also working on additional lessons and activities, including a rock exploration geology exercise, a history reflection on the Great Depression, and, of course, a hands-on building exercise in the spirit of Ben Hartman.
